Local Trees and Hedgerows

Our Trees and Hedgerows

Our Parish has some wonderful trees - but the old adage “the best time to plant a tree is 15 years ago” has added urgency.

We have some wonderful old oak trees but, apart from in Frank’s Wood, a dearth of young new generation oak.

Our lanes and green spaces and fields will be losing the shade from the ash trees we are loosing - just as our Summers are becoming hotter. We need a plan!

The principle must be “right tree in the right place” and - because hedges provide a vital corridor of habitat for our wildlife - we need more!

Our Parish will hopefully have a tree warden soon as part of a Wiltshire Council initiative, so watch this space.

What we are doing

Growing saplings from seeds collected locally as part of Copse in a Box initiative.

Exploring plans for a new hedge along edge of Franks’s Wood (in discussion with Woodland Trust, Parish Council and Cotswold Wardens).

Tree appreciation walks through the seasons.

Can You Help?

Get in touch with suggestions for tree/hedge planting options in the Parish, or if you have space in your garden.

Are there places near you which could be made a comfortable community space with tree shade and seating? We can help, including looking at funding opportunities.
