Volunteer

Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

Lead or help run an activity e.g. nature walk, bird walk, bug hunt, children's activities, give a talk, wild flower sketching, etc.

Carry out desktop activities for us (always needed!) e.g. research, admin, sourcing funding, etc.

Get involved with a project:

Contact us with your project ideas, or if you'd like to help with what's already going on (have a look at our projects page).

General 'citizens science' projects - let us know if you are interested in taking part in general citizens science projects in the parish, such as being involved in surveys of wildlife, plants, trees or flowers.

Colerne Parish has amazing wildlife - but knowing what we have is important for noticing if species are disappearing and protecting important habitats. 'Citizens Science' projects are a brilliant way to help do this - many involve you observing a particular thing (e.g. hedgehogs) or things (e.g. types of bees, butterflies, wild orchids, hedges, reptiles) in a specific outdoor space, recording what you see, and submitting your findings. Many projects require no specialist knowledge or skills – anything you need to know is explained when you take part.

Specialist citizen science projects - these would either draw on the knowledge of amateur gardeners, bird spotters, naturalists, etc., or where appropriate would offer to train volunteers e.g. if specialist procedures or equipment is required.

Let us know if you are interested in specific training in how to take part in nature monitoring - we're looking at trying to arrange some in the near future.

Donations are always gratefully received and go towards funding expert speakers, running nature-themed events and purchasing necessary equipment for our practical conservation work. They may also enable us to take on additional partnership work, initiate new projects, etc.
